Dental Crowns
Crowns, often referred to as caps, are indicated when a tooth has fractured, suffered extensive decay, lost a large filling or undergone root canal treatment. Crowns are also used to attach bridges, cover implants and also serve as an aesthetic use, and are applied when a discolored or stained tooth needs to be restored to its natural appearance.
Crowns may be composed of tooth-colored ceramic (metal free), tooth-colored ceramic over precious metal, or all gold. The option selected will depend on the location of the specific teeth.
Restoring a tooth with a crown is less costly than having to replace the tooth if it is lost.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO FIT A DENTAL CROWN?
Two appointments are usually sufficient for fitting a crown. During the first appointment, Dr. Ramer will remove the decay, shape the tooth, make an impression of the prepared tooth, select a color for the crown and place a temporary crown on the tooth.
During the second appointment, the temporary crown is removed and the permanent crown is cemented in place. Minor adjustments are made to ensure an accurate fit and comfortable bite.
